The drama unfolded when the client, on the advice of a reputable wealth management firm, received a deceptive Norton phishing email. The email falsely informed the client of an account charge and a renewal of services, prompting a call to the number provided. This seemingly innocent action spiraled into a treacherous situation when the scammer on the other end cunningly convinced the client to allow remote access to their computer for a refund process.
The scammer, using the guise of customer support, initially attempted to install a nefarious program via TeamViewer. However, BlackCloak, ever vigilant, received an alert and immediately denied access to the software. Not deterred, the scammer switched tactics and used AnyDesk, a software approved by BlackCloak, to gain entry. Once in, the client was directed to a malicious website link, which attempted to download a harmful file onto the client’s computer.
Here’s where BlackCloak’s exceptional protection software showcased its prowess. The download was instantly blocked, and the file was quarantined, rendering the scammer’s efforts futile. Recognizing the severity of the situation, the client’s spouse suggested contacting BlackCloak.
